Olympus DSS Player Version 7.5 Now Supports OS X Mavericks

Olympus recently released DSS Player Version 7.5, which includes 3 primary enhancements; most noteworthy is support for Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.
The saying, “Out with the old… in with the new” comes to mind here as the release notes confirm updating to Olympus DSS Player v7.5 drops support for users with OS X 10.4 and lower. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise as I doubt there are many Mac users still running Tiger (10.4). If by chance you are one of the few with an outdated system, you’ll be happy to know that Apple has made OS X Mavericks 10.9 available as a FREE update for users running OS X 10.6.8 and later.
Apple isn’t the only one in the giving spirit; Olympus is offering version 7.5 at no cost for all existing Olympus DSS Player version 7 users. The update can be downloaded from the eDist FTP site or through the Olympus Pro Portal, accessible by Certified Olympus Dealers only.
In addition to Mavericks support, version 7.5 includes a few Folder Enhancements allowing users to configure the download path for each folder individually in the Download Tray. This is very helpful for those of us working with multiple authors and typists. Those wanting Custom Aliases can now check that off of your wish list as users can now add additional folders with custom names and paths within the application. Custom folders will appear in the Download Tray underneath Folders A through G.
Last, and actually least, is DS5500 Support. The Olympus DS-5500 is an Integrator model that likely won’t get much attention here in North America. If you’re an integrator, chances are you’re not using the DSS Player software so I’m not sure why it’s included in this update. Additionally, if you’re an integrator, I would highly recommend the DS7000 series over the DS5500.
I’ve had the opportunity to install and evaluate DSS Player v7.5 on my Mac running OS X Mavericks, I’m happy to report that it works like a charm. I’m really enjoying the ability to set individual paths to my existing folders and I recommend that all DSS Player v7 users update their application immediately.
