My Olympus Foot Switch Doesn’t Work
The H-series Olympus® foot switches are specifically made to work with non-Olympus software. But, they should also work with Olympus software.
The current Foot Switch Configuration Tool has a known issue that prevents you from using the H-series foot switches with both Olympus and non-Olympus software. We’re going to show you how to fix that.
Environment
- Windows® Vista, 7, 8, 8.1
- Mac® OS X 10.5 – 10.10
- Olympus Foot Switch Configuration Tool v1.0.0
- Olympus foot switch models: RS27H, RS28H, or RS31H
To check which version of the tool you’re running, open the program and go to Help > About Foot Switch Configuration Tool.
Steps To Reproduce
- Open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool and set it to the default template.
- Choose “Keyboard Mode” and click [Apply to Foot Switch]. Then click the [Close] button.
- Use the foot switch in a 3rd party application.
- Open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool and change it to “Olympus Mode.” Click [Apply to Foot Switch] and then [Close].
- Try to use the foot switch in the Olympus Transcription Module. It will not work.
If you were to open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool after step 4 above, you would see that it has reverted back to “Keyboard Mode,” which is keeping the foot switch from working in your Olympus software.
Resolution
We’re going to create a new template, which will allow us to use the Olympus software again.
- Open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool.
- Click File > New Template.
- When the “Save As” window opens, give it the name “Olympus Template” and click the [Save] button.
- The screen should now indicate you’re on the “Olympus Template.” Choose “Olympus Mode,” click [Apply to Foot Switch], and then click [Close].
- You will be prompted to save. Click [Yes].
- Now unplug the foot switch, and then plug it back in. Do not open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool.
- Open the Olympus Transcription Module and use your foot switch.
Using Non-Olympus Applications
When you need to use the foot switch in a 3rd party application again:
- Open the Foot Switch Configuration Tool.
- Select the default template. If it asks you if you want to transfer the settings, click [Yes].
- Click [Apply to Foot Switch] and then [Close].
